Arafest began as a joint stag and hen party for Mike and Joanne Aramayo. Our very first Arafest was in the summer of 2014, where they invited 150 guests to celebrate their up and coming wedding, with the help of Criag Rutter and Kate Hunter, Arafest was born.
After a very successful event, everybody suggested Arafest should be put it on again the following year to raise money for charity, which we did in the July 2105.
Choosing the charity to support was the next issue and with 2 of Mike’s children being professional actors, Laura and Robert Aramayo, they decided to find a charity associated with the Arts, Drama, Dance, Song, etc. What better charity than Hull-based Freedom Road Creative Arts, who do an amazing job for the children and young adults of Hull.
Laura had just returned from Uganda, working with disadvantaged children teaching them Drama, so we then added The Sunbeam Project of Africa to our list.
5 years later, we have now raised over an estimated £30k, and 2018 saw “a party in in field” become a fully registered charity – ARAFEST.
